Cutting-Edge Men’s Fashion: Crochet Shorts From Vintage Blankies

If there is one thing that is true in the world where we live, it’s the fact that we can always expect the unexpected. Sometimes, we tend to get so focused in on our own lives and what we may feel is the normal day to day activities that life can throw us a curve and take us completely off track. That is what is seen in this post.

Fashion trends tend to come and go and, at times, they may repeat themselves as we go along. For example, the art of crochet was used for many years as a way to put together some types of fashion, such as sweaters and scarves. Perhaps we might even have some of those items hiding in a drawer somewhere and they tend to be both unusual and perhaps even a bit nostalgic.

Well, it seems as if crochet may be making somewhat of a comeback and it is going to take you by surprise. This new era of crochet isn’t about making that funky sweater that will never be worn, it is about recycling old crochet items and turning them into something that is usable again. Now, I’ll be the first one to admit that these are not going to be to everyone’s liking, but you are certainly going to find them to be unique.

These new crochet shorts are perhaps some of the most unique items that we have seen come around in quite some time. They are sold online at an Etsy shop and, according to the creator: “Afghan blankets are original pieces of folk art, hand made by artisans across America since the 1960’s and well before. With scissors and a sewing machine I transform vintage crochets into wearable sculpture!”

Take a look at these unique fashion items.

“When I first learned to knit in Barcelona, Spain, I wanted to create something different from what I saw as ‘typical’ knit or crochet.”

“After knitting for hours every day for several years, I eventually flashed on the idea of using afghans as a pre-made crochet textile. Recycling vintage crochets allowed me to create crochet garments with a speed which I had never imagined. It was like I jumped a level in a video game”

There are capris and pants, too

“I get orders for all kinds of sizes, from seemingly remote parts of the country and planet!! All I can say is crochet is universal, and anyone can rock a pair of these at any time. I wear them to sleep, and I also wear them to parties”

“Nearly all afghans can be recycled but of course, some do work better than others. Densely crocheted afghans in bright color schemes, southwest designs, stripes and zig zags make the best shorts!”

“I have never crocheted shorts myself, nor have I ever made an afghan. I prefer to recycle an existing crochet than to start from scratch. That way the garments are affordable and eco-friendly”
