There are many people who have talents but one particular type of talent is appreciated by people all around the world. I’m talking about the talent of comedy, and when somebody has the ability to make us laugh, it is a gift that we certainly can appreciate. More than likely, you have your own favorite comedians and for many people, Don Rickles has fallen somewhere on the list.
After being a comedian and a legend added for many years, Don Rickles has passed away. He was 90 years of age and suffering from kidney failure. During the time that he was dying, his wife, Barbara, stayed by his side. It is just another example of how year after year, we seem to lose those who are most precious to us. Don Rickles will be remembered for the laughs, something that he gave us in great measure.
Although there are many different types of comedians, Don was well known for spouting insults and doing so masterfully. He was working in the Miami nightclub when he was spotted by Frank Sinatra. ”I just saw your movie, The Pride and the Passion,” Don told Sinatra. “I want to tell you, the cannon’s acting was great.” If that isn’t the way to get the attention of somebody famous, I don’t know what is. From that point forward, Frank referred to Don as “bullet head” and his success just continued to build.
Not only was he a well-known comedian, he also was an actor that is quite well known. He starred in Run Silent, Run Deep, along with Burt Lancaster and Clark Gable. He was also frequently seen in the Beach Party Films and appeared in a number of television shows, including The Dick Van Dyke Show, the Adams Family, the Monsters, the Andy Griffith Show, I Dream of Jeannie and Gilligan’s Island.
As he got older, he did slow down but he continued working up until the very end. Even had recent appearances on late-night talk shows, such as Jimmy Kimmel Live and was touring on the dog Rickles tour.
RIP Mr. Rickles. Thank you for the laughs.
