We often deal with life on a day-to-day basis and most of us don’t truly plan what is necessary in the event of an emergency. Fortunately, there are those who do know what to do when something goes wrong and it can sometimes save your life. That is what you’re going to read in this story.
It happened when Jordan, a 20-year-old college student, was leaving work and heading home to South Carolina. It was then that her story took a rather unusual turn but thanks to some quick thinking on her part, she was able to get through it and it even saved her life. Perhaps this is something that could save your life at sometime as well.
Jordan was heading to her student apartment building and it was approximately 1 AM in the morning. When she got there, she found that there were three men waiting for her at the apartment. They pulled a gun on her, pointing it in her direction and taking her personal possessions. Unfortunately, things escalated from that point and it could’ve gone very poorly for her. You see, they couldn’t steal her car because they were unable to operate a stick shift. That is when they grabbed Jordan, forced her into the car and made her drive them to the gas station. The third man took off at that point.
Apparently, the three men in this situation were only teenagers. As you can imagine, that didn’t stop Jordan from being frightened but fortunately, she knew what to do.
When they got to the gas station, they told Jordan that she should withdraw money from the ATM machine using her debit card. They were also planning on raping her. Jordan decided enough was enough and she decided to take action.
“I thought back to my mom. She was almost a victim of assault when she was in college, and she fought back and fought the man off, and I thought you know, I’m going to be strong like my mom, I’m going to get myself out of this.”
Beth Turner, Jordan’s mother, made sure that her daughter was not a victim. She told Jordan to be strong and fight back if she ever found herself in this situation.
“My mom always told me, you know, don’t let them get you alone, because then you have no help, you have no hope for passerby’s to see you or hear you, and you have no help to get out.”
Jordan started planning her escape as soon as she withdrew the money from the ATM. She didn’t put her seatbelt on but instead, she jumped out of the car suddenly while she was driving.
“I just kind of thought in my head, ‘Do it, do it, do it,’ and then the next thing I know, my hands were on the handle, I was opening the door and I was staring at the pavement.”
After getting out of the car, she immediately tried to get help. Two cars drove by without stopping but the third car stopped and came to her aid. Her only regret is that she didn’t see the reaction on their faces when she jumped from the car.
According to the local ABC news station she said, “They were in a moving vehicle, without a driver, and a 20-year-old girl just outsmarted you. I wish I could’ve seen their faces at that moment, so that they knew that I might have been a victim, but I was not victimized.”
The teenagers were only 15 and 17 and they have been arrested. They were involved in other crimes in the area as well.
