Georgia Engel From The Mary Tyler Moore Show Is Dead At 70

Georgia Engel has passed away at the age of 70. Many people know her as Georgette Baxter from the Mary Tyler Moore show. John Quilty, her executor and friend said that the cause of death is unknown at this time. Reportedly, she was a Christian Scientist and did not go to doctors.

Her most notable role is Georgette on the Mary Tyler Moore show. She received Emmy nominations for outstanding continuing performance by supporting actress in a comedy series for the role that she played.

Engel was born on July 28, 1948, in Washington DC. Her mother was Ruth Caroline and her father, who was a Coast Guard admiral was Benjamin Franklin Engel. She graduated from Walter Johnson high school in Bethesda Maryland and later received a degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She appeared in some off-Broadway shows and many other musical productions after graduating college.

Her career really took off when she received the role as Georgette Baxter on the Mary Tyler Moore show. She started acting on that show during the third season and continued until it ended in 1977.

After acting as Georgette Baxter, she went on to appear on the Betty White Show, Jennifer Slept Here and Goodtime Girls. Eventually, she also played a recurring role on Everybody Loves Raymond and won three Emmy nominations for outstanding guest actress in a comedy series.

During her later years, she returned to the stage playing a part in The Drowsy Chaperone. She also performed in an off-Broadway production in 2015.

Georgia Engel has two surviving sisters, Robin and Penny. There is no official word on funeral services or memorials at this time.
