Police Refuse To Spend $15,000 On German Shepherds, Adopt Pit Bulls Instead

Most of us are familiar with the fact that police sometimes use dogs. Traditionally, they use German shepherds and it might come as a surprise to you that they will pay up to $15,000 for a single police dog. Admittedly, that sometimes include some basic training but it is still a lot to pay. That is especially true once you hear what this Sheriff’s office is doing.

Rather than spending tens of thousands of dollars on German shepherds, the North Carolina Clay County Sheriff’s office is using rescued pit bulls instead. In this article, you will be introduced to Phantom and Sarah, two of those rescued pit bulls who are now k-9 dogs for the Sheriff’s office. This was an idea of the Police Department themselves, and now these dogs have the opportunity to do something fantastic for themselves and their breed.

Pit bulls are an amazing breed of dog but they are also one that tends to be misunderstood. Most families who own pit bulls will tell you that they are one of the most gentle and loving dogs in existence but the media has only portrayed them as being vicious. Of course, you would want to make sure that you treat a pit bull properly and certainly, these police officers have what it takes to be able to do so in the best way possible.

These pits are given a second chance in life but it goes beyond that. There also given the opportunity to save money for the taxpayers in the county as well. It is a win-win situation for them and the dogs.

“The two foundations have taken on the mission to show that Departments do not need to spend $15-$20,000 for a purebred German shepherd or Belgian Malinois to search and find illegal drugs, at the same time giving dogs destined for a life in a shelter or euthanasia a second chance at life serving Law Enforcement Officers and Departments around the country,” they released in a statement.

Hopefully this will become a popular choice among police officers.
