Bears are known as ferocious animals and that’s because they have the ability to tear humans apart, limb by limb. However, like all wild animals, bears will rarely seek out human contact and when they do attack, it’s usually to protect themselves or their young. However, there are tons of stories out there of bears being friendly with humans, and although it’s not recommended for you to ever try to befriend a bear, one man shares the videos that show his bear neighbors visiting his porch. The man is Patrick Conley and he has a popular YouTube channel where he shares videos of his bear friends.
Over the years, a bear has frequently come to visit Patrick, and one day recently, she showed up with her newborn cubs. Patrick lives in the Asheville, North Carolina area, and black bears like this one, who he calls “Simone,” are common there. In the U.S., the bear population is growing, and that’s a good thing. In part, it’s because bears like Simone have learned to cohabitate somewhat with human beings. In the video that Patrick shared on his YouTube channel, Simone comes up onto Patrick’s deck with her baby cubs to visit. And they’re so dang cute it’s not even funny.
Mama bears are notoriously protective, which is where the phrase “mama bear” comes from when speaking about protective human moms. So for Simone to bring her cubs to the porch just shows how comfortable she is with Patrick and it proves that he does not make her feel unsafe or threatened in any way. Patrick says that the cubs are the “cutest things to have ever walked these woods,” but he admits he may be just a bit biased because he has been loving these bear families for a long time.
