When my stepson was growing up, he frequently had strep throat. After going through the same thing with her older child, my wife made the decision to have her son’s tonsils removed. She says that he never got strep throat again and it was the best decision she ever made. A tonsillectomy is a routine procedure with minimal risk, so it was shocking when one family suffered an unimaginable loss. The Cogsdill family from South Carolina planned a tonsillectomy for their little girl, Paisley Elizabeth Grace. Paisley was seven years old and a healthy second-grader.
She wasn’t worried about her surgery and went into it fearlessly. However, one minute into the procedure, Paisley’s heart stopped unexpectedly. The family is devastated and they’re left looking for answers that no one is providing. The community came together to support the family during this hard time and it has been helpful to them. As of now, they are awaiting results from the autopsy that will hopefully shed some light on exactly what went so terribly wrong in this procedure that is done so commonly every year for thousands of kids. Paisley’s grandmother, Mary Beth Trulock described her granddaughter.
She said that Paisley was “smiling and happy” and had no fear. The only issue she ever had was that she snored in her sleep. When her heart stopped, the doctors attempted to revive the little girl, but they couldn’t get her heart to start beating again. The family is in a lot of pain, of course, and support has been pouring out for them on social media. The family is taking solace from their faith in God and trying to just work through what they’re going through.
A GoFundMe campaign raised more than $44K for funeral expenses for this sweet little girl. Rest in peace, little one.
