When someone mentions a pregnant girl too young to have children, we automatically think they are talking about a teenager. It doesn’t even cross our minds that it’s even possible for young children to become pregnant, and for the most part, this is true. However, human biology has variables that can make it possible in sporadic cases for young children under the age of 10 to carry children. Such was the case back in 1939 when a 5-year-old girl named Lina Medina became the world’s most immature mother.
The little girl was taken to a doctor because her stomach kept getting bigger one day. Doctors at the time were convinced she had a stomach tumor, but after careful examination, they discovered the unthinkable. The 5-year old little girl was with the child.
They soon learned that she was seven months pregnant, and the man responsible for her condition was believed to have been her father!
After a few months, Lina gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Doctors had to perform a cesarean section to deliver the child, but Lina could recover.
Today, Lina is 90 years old, but she is still on record (thankfully) of being the world’s youngest mother as she was only five years and seven months old.
Lina was born on September 23, 1933, in Peru. At first, it seemed she had a routine and stable home life. Her mother was a housemaker, and her father worked as a silversmith.
At the time, police arrested her father on suspicion of incest, but they could never gather enough evidence to prove he raped his daughter. And to this day, Lina’s father’s identity has never been revealed.
On May 14, 1939, her infant son was named Geraldo in honor of the doctor who brought him into the world when she gave birth. He was perfectly healthy at 6 pounds.
Doctors soon diagnosed Lina with a rare condition called precocious puberty upon further investigation. Her mother would later tell authorities that her daughter began her menstrual cycle when she was just three years old. And by the age of five, Lina’s sexual organs had fully matured.
In the beginning, they told little Geraldo that Lina had his sister. However, by the age of 10, they revealed the shocking truth. The child lived a healthy life until dying in 1979 from bone disease. Geraldo was 40 years old.
Today, Lina still lives in Peru, and she even married and had another child in the 1970s when she was 39.
