Man Faces Criminal Charges After Faking Accident and Tesla Outsmarted Him

A man from Louisiana has been arrested for faking an accident involving a motor vehicle. The man is Arthur Bates, Jr., and the 47-year-old man called 911 when he reported that he was hit by a Tesla in the parking lot of a gas station in early September. When police arrived on the scene in New Orleans, they evaluated the “accident.” When the cops arrived, Bates said that he had been harmed and was indicated that his neck, back, and legs were injured because the Tesla backed into him. Further, he claimed that the driver of the vehicle fled the scene.

However, the police officers tracked the driver of the Tesla down and this person disputed the version given by Bates. Specifically, the owner of the Tesla accused Bates of fabricating the entire accident and the story surrounding what happened. It was easy to prove because the Tesla has an onboard camera, which is a common feature in Tesla vehicles. When the officers watched the video, it clearly showed that Bates lied about being hit by the car. In fact, he staged the whole incident to try to cash in. When the officers viewed the video, they saw that Bates waited for the car to back out.

Then, Bates threw himself to the ground behind the car. At that point, the driver stopped quickly to avoid hitting the man. When the driver got out of the car, he walked over to Bates to exchange words with him. Then, he slapped Bates’ foot, which was on the car’s bumper. Then, Bates sat down on the ground and watched the car drive away. When the police questioned him, Bates admitted to faking the accident.
