Any parent’s top priority in life is ensuring the safety and well-being of their children. And when it comes to babies, parents are extra-vigilant. However, most of us never expect danger to find them while they are safe and snug in our presence. However, one mom is ringing the alarm about a medical condition that’s quite common among children, one that can have devastating if not deadly consequences.[1]
It began when Heather’s son, Jacob, was ten weeks old. The mom had recently put him down to take a two-hour nap and began to change his diaper. Jacob was an infant who never fussed too much over anything, so when her son woke up from his nap, Heather checked his diaper but saw it didn’t need changing. However, when she glanced down at his toes, she noticed that they had turned a dark shade of blue!
Tommy, Jacob’s dad, was also in the room to help his son get ready after his nap. The parents were planning on attending a party, so they wanted to make sure they had plenty of time to feed Jabob, change his diaper, and put on some fresh clothes.
“I handed him to his dad Tommy to put socks on him when Tommy realized his two toes were blue and tied together with a strand of hair!!! I immediately took off what I could and had to take him to the ER where we spent an hour and a team of 5 doctors trying to get the rest of MY HAIR off his two toes…”
According to Jacob’s doctors, it was likely they would have had to amputate his toes had Heather not removed the hair before taking him to the hospital.

Heather is now urging all parents everywhere always to check their babies — everywhere!
The medical term for Jacob’s medical emergency is called “Hair tourniquet syndrome,’ and it’s a lot more common than many realize.
“CHECK YOUR BABYS TOES AS OFTEN AS YOU CAN!!! And if you have a baby boy even his PENIS. Yes I said penis… they are such tiny baby’s and our hair can be such a hazard but it’s something that we never really pay attention to.. so plz share this with all your mom friends with little babies!!!!”
Heather took a picture 12 hours after they removed the hair from his toes. As you can see, the skin still looks swollen and very raw. She cried at the thought of how it must have made her son feel.

Since knowledge is power, this mom dishes to spread as much information and knowledge about this threat to the baby’s safety as possible. It’s very important to remember that even a strand of hair can feel like razor wire when wrapped on a baby’s skin.
