It’s always interesting when we hear about somebody who was able to get into the book of world records. At times, they may do something unusual, such as juggling bowling pins or perhaps walking on a high wire. There are others who practice for years upon years to get good at doing something and they then turn all of that time into a world record that is uniquely their own. Of course, all of us are good at something but that doesn’t necessarily mean that we are going to set a record at it. For a South African woman named Gosiame Thamara Sithole, it wasn’t juggling or acrobatics that got her into the book of world records, she had 10 babies at one time.
We’ve all heard about the mother that had eight children, someone that we lovingly refer to as Octomom. As it turns out, this South African woman is perhaps the first Decumom, and if it is true, then she broke a record that was only set last month. Sithole already has twin six-year-olds and when she was pregnant this last time, she thought she was going to have eight children. As it turns out, however, her cesarean section birth at Pretoria Hospital surprised everyone when there were 10 babies in total. Seven boys and three girls.
This mother is no doubt excited and perhaps even a little exasperated over the birth but she says that she is happy, emotional, and isn’t able to talk much. Of course, having one child is a big responsibility but having 10 children is something that most of us could never even dream of.
The book of world records is still trying to verify the fact that she had 10 children. There is some research that needs to go into this but judging by the pictures we saw of her pregnant belly, there could certainly have been 10 children waiting to come out. Let’s just hope they do well as a family and all of the children are healthy, happy, and well-rounded.
