There is an expression that ‘what you see is what you get’. We often use this expression because we know that anything we see is simply what is in front of us. We tend to take it all in, but we also tend to miss things.
When you look at something, the first thing you do is to get an overview of what you are seeing. In some cases, an overview is enough for you to size up the situation and to react.
In the case of a family picture, we may look at it and it can even make us smile because we love seeing families that are sitting happily together. It almost looks as if that is the case with this picture, but people are really freaked out by it.
